The Spring term has been a busy and positive period for the College. Our students have travelled as far afield as India, our Performance School hosted three sold-out performances of Guys and Dolls, our sports teams have excelled on the pitch, and, recently, the College was recognised by SSAT (The Schools, Students and Teachers Network) in this year’s Educational Outcomes Awards.
As we head towards the end of term break, I would like to thank every member of our learning community for their continued support and commitment. I hope you all have a restful and relaxing break, and I look forward to welcoming you back to the Collage in a couple of weeks’ time.
A night of musical celebration
Last week, an audience gathered in our Gropius Hall for an evening of live music and entertainment. Over 50 of our students from across the College showcased some of the vast array of extra-curricular activities they are able to participate in. Performances from our string ensemble, samba band, barbershop singing group and finally, our full orchestra, contributed towards an entertaining and diverse night of music celebration. Thank you to all of the students who participated in the evening, and to all of the parents who ensured that the students had a packed audience to perform for!
Those with a particular interest in music will be pleased to read that from the start of the 2024/25 academic year, students will be able to study music as part of their International Baccalaureate (IB) studies at our Sixth Form, Impington International College. Stay tuned for more information about the new subject.
Eureka Maths trip
It has been a joy to continue to collaborate closely with Cambridge Maths School this term; a number of our students have benefitted from regular lectures and activities facilitated by the school. Today, a cohort of our Year 10 students headed to the Centre of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cambridge, and explored mathematical mysteries with famous Mathematician, James Grime. They also took part in quizzes and collaborated with their peers to solve a series of challenging mathematical problems.
Trips like this help to foster a love of learning. I look forward to witnessing the impact of the day when our students return to the classroom following the end of term break.
Year 12 mock interview day
Whether for a job, a university application or an apprenticeship, being confident in an interview is a key skill required for life beyond the College walls. We are committed to providing our students with the best possible opportunities to succeed, and one of the ways we do this is through organising mock interviews.
This week, thanks to Form the Future, representatives from leading employers across the region visited the College to conduct a series of mock interviews with our Year 12 students. The day enabled our students to gain confidence in their ability to speak to new people, identify their key strengths, and learn how to promote themselves in a way that attracts the attention of the interviewer.
World Theatre Day
Did you know that yesterday (27 March) was World Theatre Day? I used the day as an opportunity to reflect upon the importance of providing our students with access to regular theatre performances to bring their classroom learning to life.
Recently, students have enjoyed watching performances of Romeo & Juliet, Phantom of the Opera, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, and more. Our students relish the opportunity to watch performances, but, as you know, they really enjoy taking part too. Most recently, they staged a performance of Guys and Dolls, which welcomed three sold-out audiences. If you haven’t been to one of our performances, I may be bias, but I would highly recommend you attend the next one. Watch this space for more information.
