As we head towards the final Half Term of the academic year, I would like to say a huge thank you and congratulations to all of our students for their hard work and achievements throughout the first half of the Summer Term. It has been a profoundly successful period across the College, with students excelling in multiple different subject disciplines.
This week has been another busy and successful week and I’m pleased to share details of recent activities with you below.
Year 13 students celebrate in style!
Firstly, I would like to congratulate all of our Year 13 students for completing their International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations. It has been inspiring to witness their hard work and dedication to their studies throughout their time at the College and I wish them all the very best of luck ahead of IB results day on 6 July. I am sure you will join me in keeping your fingers crossed for them.
The students marked the celebration in style at their May Ball, which was held at the Arundel House in Cambourne. It was an evening of glitz, glamour, and good times. It was a joy to witness them celebrate the end of their examinations with the friends that they have made throughout their time at the College. Konnichiwa Japan!
A number of our students benefit from our commitment to providing international learning experiences, with students recently travelling to Vietnam, and others flying to Botswana in the near future. On Thursday, a cohort of students travelled to Tokyo in Japan to stay with host families from our partner school and take part in a range of enriching activities. Our students are living and learning alongside their Japanese contemporaries and across the next 10 days will be exploring some of the rich historical traditions of the country. They will enjoy calligraphy and kimono workshops at the Sensoji temple and climb the iconic Mount Takao. To finish off their trip, the students will be travelling via boat to the artificial island of Odaiba and, of course, no trip to Tokyo would be complete without some karaoke singing! I look forward to hearing all about the trip when they return to the College following Half Term.
Election season
We are committed to championing our students’ voices across the College and one of the ways we realise this is through our Impington Student Union. Each year, students elect four student executives who act as their voice amongst the College’s Senior Leadership Team and have influence over key decisions made at the College. This week, our eight potential candidates have been holding hustings to present their campaigns to other students and to gather support. It has been a joy monitoring their progress ahead of the election which is take place later today.
Thank you to our Sixth Form Politics students who have been overseeing the entire process. Following the election they will also be acting as official vote counters. I will be sure to provide you with an update on the results of the election following the Half Term break.
Congratulations to our Rugby Scholars
The student successes have continued for our Sports Scholars, with a number of our Rugby Scholars receiving callups to represent county teams. Congratulations to students, Toby D., Caleb R., Wren H., Joseph E., Tom P., Jonas H., and Ben C. who were all selected to represent Eastern Counties Rugby Union. Congratulations also to, Lewis F. and Max J., who were selected to represent East Midlands Rugby Union, and to Frankie T., Victor M., and Ben A. for being selected to represent Cambridgeshire RFU. I am incredibly proud of them all and would like to also congratulate Max Dominy and the rest of his rugby team for delivering such a robust rugby programme.
Year 8 English students crack the case
Finally, on Monday, a cohort of our Year 8 IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) English students travelled to the Cambridge University Library to experience its Crime Fiction Exhibition. The exhibition celebrates 20th Century British crime fiction, which is a unit that the Year 8 cohort have recently completed. The experience provided the opportunity for them to see and explore the incredible library, as well as learn more about British crime fiction and some of the genre’s most renowned authors. The students all had a fantastic time on the trip and were very engaged with the whole experience. I look forward to witnessing the impact of the trip in their future studies.
