Parent Events

It has been great this week to welcome parents into College for both the Sixth Form Welcome Evenings, and our first College Coffee Morning of the year. Mrs Gibbons and Mrs Wilson, our Heads of Sixth Form, enjoyed meeting new year 12 parents and talking them through life at IIC, as well as meeting year 13 parents to outline key milestones such as the final examinations and UCAS applications. It was also nice to meet with a small group of parents for the Coffee Morning, and tour the College once lessons were underway. If you would like to join us for the next Coffee Morning on 6th November, please contact as we would love to see you there.

Parent Governor Vacancy

Another great way to get involved in College life is to join our Local Governing Body (LGB), which currently has a vacancy for a Parent Governor. In general, governors are responsible for curriculum oversight and playing the role of ‘critical friend,’ to ensure teaching and learning are the strongest that it can be within the College.

Our parent governors act as a conduit between the parent body and the LGB. They are critical members of the team who bring professional experience and knowledge as well as a parent viewpoint and perspective to discussion and debate.

If you are interested in the way the College makes decisions and have some time to commit to this role, we would like you to consider becoming a parent governor. If you would like more information, please contact Louise Todd, Clerk to Governors ().

PSFA Update: Custard Comedy and Uniform Sale

This Saturday (21 September) we have our first ever weekend uniform sale, run by our amazing PSFA (Parent, Staff and Friends Association). We are grateful to the volunteers for giving up their time to support working parents to access the sale, which also generates much-appreciated funds for the College. Our eco committee are also helping once again with the organisation and preparation for the sale, giving up their Friday afternoon to volunteer in their own time.

On 11 October the PSFA is hosting Custard Comedy, with four professional comedians, including award-winning headliner Bethany Black, who has starred in Dr Who and amongst other TV credits she has been a guest on Rosie Jones’ comedy panel show. Bethany has opened for Joe Lycett and Paul Sinha. For the full line up please click here. The last two Custard Comedy events have sold out so do grab your ticket(s) now and enjoy a night of comedy whilst helping to fundraise for the College!

Bonjour from Tours!

Our French students are in Tours this week for the French Exchange visit. They are visiting our partner school, Collège Jean-Philippe Rameau, which we have had links with for nearly 25 years. An opportunity to experience French culture and practise their language skills, the students have also been on a city tour, visited art galleries and museums, as well as local shops. They even saw a flypast from the PAF, the French Red Arrows, as part of their tour! Exchanges are a key part of our language

learning offer, and more details will follow soon about the German and Spanish Exchanges later this year.

Gold D of E: Snowdonia

Our year 13 students are in Snowdonia this week for their Gold Qualifying Expedition. They are walking fifty miles across Snowdonia, having already completed their training weekend and practice expedition in the Lake District. We are very proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award across the College, and this year have more than two hundred students completing the Bronze Award. Miss Morgan, our Duke of Edinburgh Co-ordinator, will soon be offering the Silver Award as an additional opportunity to our KS4 students. Watch this space for more details!

Community thank you

This week we also wanted to thank the Vickers family, who responded on behalf of Histon Cricket Club to our plea for musical instruments. Ms Macleod was very grateful to receive a class set of drumsticks, which have already been put to good use in the Music department. We continue to grow our Music department and are very grateful to the PSFA who have bought keyboards and other equipment to improve our offer. If you think that you could help, please contact the office.

More alumni success

We were delighted to hear this week from Liv Woolhouse, one of our amazing performers, who is currently making her professional debut in Alan Ayckbourn’s Show & Tell at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough. One of our former IBCP students, Liv studied Performing Arts, Theatre and Film at IIC before going on to Guildford School of Acting, where she graduated from in 2024. Sadly it is a little too far to take our students to see Liv in action, but we look forward to her performing closer to home soon.
