Hear from the Principal

December 13, 2024

What a brilliant term it has been! As we reach the end of the busy autumn term and the end of 2024, there are so many things for us to celebrate at Impington. We are so grateful to our staff, students and extended community for all of the support and hard work that has gone into making the autumn term such a success. I wish you all a fantastic festive season, and look forward to another great year in 2025.

It may be the last week of term, but it has certainly been a very busy one. We have had a variety of trips out this week, as well as the Year 11 Progress Evening, where we welcomed parents and carers in to discuss the recent mock exams, revision techniques and to gain feedback from teachers ahead of the MyChoice deadline for post-16 applications. Yesterday, our students took part in the ‘save and send’ day, finalising and sending off their applications to the different providers. A very exciting moment!

Year 9 Community Projects

A definite highlight of the term, on Wednesday afternoon a group of our year 9 students displayed their work on ‘Service as Action’ for their Community Projects in the Library and Prom, to show the work they have been doing in service learning this term. It was great to welcome in parents and carers to showcase these, and to highlight some of the action that students have taken this term. The Community Project is one of the key milestones in the Middle Years Programme, and it was a lovely opportunity for some of our younger students to go along and see the work that year 9 have produced, supporting initiatives to improve the local environment, mental health, and charity fundraising. The aim of service as action is to develop caring members of the community who act to make a difference to the lives of others and their environment, and students are required to engage with their local community to find an area where they can make a positive difference. We are really proud of the work that they have done!

Panto Trip: Goldilocks

Year 8 are enjoying a trip to The Maltings in Ely this afternoon, to see Goldilocks and the Three Bears. There has been much anticipation for the trip, with the students having studied pantomime in drama this term. A special thank you to those parents and carers who ‘paid it forward’ and donated a ticket, or towards the cost of a ticket, to ensure that everyone who wanted to go was able to. We really appreciate your generosity.

Matthew Bourne: Swan Lake

Our Performance School students enjoyed a Christmas treat this week on a trip to Sadler’s Wells to see Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, which they are studying as part of their Unit 1 Performing Arts BTEC exam, which is coming up in January. Thanks to Mrs Halliday for organising another great opportunity for our students to see world-class live theatre.

British Museum: Spanish trip

Our IB Diploma Spanish B students also enjoyed a trip to London on Friday, visiting the British Museum to attend the Picasso Exhibition, as part of their unit on Human Ingenuity. As part of the trip, students explored Picasso’s printmaking, and his impact on art and culture, which ties very well to their themes for the term, looking at the ways in which human creativity and innovation impact on the world.
