Hear from the Principal

February 7, 2025

Another busy week at IVC, with lots going on across the College!

Options Launch

Ahead of next week’s Options Evening, Miss Chivers has launched the Year 9 Options process this week. We are very excited to see our students go through the process and make their GCSE choices, from a very wide range of subjects. Next Wednesday will be our Options Evening for parents/carers and students, where our subject leaders will be on hand (along with some current Year 10 students) to talk in more detail about the different courses on offer

A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Junction

Monday night was definitely one of this year’s highlights, with our Performance School students taking to the stage at the Junction, Cambridge for a sold-out performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, adapted and directed by Director of Performance, Laura Bell. It was a truly spectacular performance, featuring students from across Key Stages 4 and 5, as well as live music and dance. As is becoming customary within the Performance School, our students also led on the technical and backstage work, operating the lights and set. Thank you to all the parents, carers and wider families who came to support the cast

GCSE Science Live!

Also on Monday, our scientists went on a large-scale trip to the Regent’s Theatre, Ispwich, for the GCSE Science Live! Conference. The students heard from five scientists, including Professor Robert Winston, Professor Sophie Scott and Professor Jim Al-Khalili. The feedback from the students was incredibly positive about how interesting the talks were, and we are grateful to the staff and volunteers who supported the students on the trip.

Elemental Poetry Workshop

On Thursday this week, Miss Page took a group of students to the Elemental Poetry Writing Workshop at Pembroke College, Cambridge. This initiative is organised by University of Cambridge fellows for secondary and sixth form students across Cambridgeshire schools, and this week’s workshops were led by local poet Peter Carpenter. They aim to develop students’ poetic skill and confidence around the theme of the natural elements, and students will be invited to publish their work in an anthology. We look forward to seeing what they produce!

‘Break a leg’ to Allegro!

Our Allegro dance team will be performing at the Energise Event at Swavesey Village College tomorrow, representing Impington and showcasing their talents! We wish them every success, and look forward to hearing about how they get on. Allegro runs every week as an extra-curricular activity, led by former IVC dance teacher Miss Petrova, for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. If your child is interested in joining, then please contact Mrs Halliday for more details.
