It has been another incredibly busy week in College this week, especially for students who are joining us in September, who have joined us from year 6 and 12!
Languages opportunities
Our MFL team have been very busy! Last week, IVC were one of only four schools in the area to be selected by The Faculty of Education at Cambridge University for a special trip to the Fitzwilliam Museum at the end of last week, to attend a CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) workshop with some of our Year 9 GCSE students. Students visited two different galleries to experience a very different way of learning French alongside Art and History. The context also supported the development of their speaking skills for the GCSE. As always, the pupils were great ambassadors for the College and had a brilliant time!
In College this week, we also had a visit from some Cambridge University students who ran some creative translation workshops for our year 8 and 9 French and German pupils. The visitors were hugely impressed by the pupils’ abilities and enthusiasm- and a great time was had by all.
Trip to Physics Jamboree: Wednesday 25 June 2025 – Year 8
Our Year 8 students had a fantastic opportunity to visit the Cavendish Laboratory at the Department of Physics, at Cambridge University, with the Isaac Physics Programme. This visit included a range of interactive problems to give students the opportunity to develop their enquiry skills and work as part of a team to solve challenging problems. The students had a fantastic time, trying out the different problems and experiencing life in a university department.
Speaker’s Trust Final
On Tuesday Evening at the Mumford Theatre, Anglia Ruskin University, two of our Year 10 students represented us in the final of the Speaker’s Trust ’Speak Out’ Challenge. Eliza H and Evelene S spoke on the themes of ‘the normality of love’ and ‘a brief eternity’, and were incredible! Eliza was awarded third place, and Evelene received glowing feedback from the judges.
Year 6 Transition Days
Monday and Tuesday we welcomed nearly 250 year 6 students into College for our year 6 transition days. The students had a fantastic time getting to know the College, attending a range of taster sessions, a welcome assembly & performance, and some iCAS taster sessions, which are always a highlight. Alongside the days for pupils, this week there have been online Q & A sessions happening for parents with children joining in September, to answer any last-minute practical questions and ensure a smooth start in September.
Year 12 Offer Holder Day
Over at IIC, we welcomed over 170 students into College yesterday for our ‘Offer Holder Day’, a key part of the transition process for our incoming year 12 students. As well as meeting their tutors and fellow students, there were a range of introductory lessons and the chance to learn more about the huge range of enrichment activities and trips that happen in the sixth form. It was lovely to see a very high number of our outgoing year 11 students taking part!
Dance Competition
Over the weekend a group of Allegro students took part in a dance competition in Braintree. Ruby G and Tess R performed solos and Ruby came first in her category. Allegro KS4 got a 1st and 2nd place and Allegro KS3 got a 2nd and 3rd place. They put on an incredible performance and we had fantastic support from parents.
