Course Description
This course is suitable for anyone who loves writing and wishes to advance their poetry skills. Over the span of four weeks, we will examine eight different poetic forms, including both traditional and innovative styles, in a setting that provides structure as well as freedom to experiment. Through theoretical analysis, guided exercises, and independent assignments, you will enhance your understanding of the craft while discovering new ways to shape language, sound, and meaning.
Aims and Objectives
Each writer will develop or extend their portfolio, gather a toolkit of innovative strategies, and build new confidence in their poetic voice.
The sessions are structured as follows:
- Week 1: Pantoum & Villanelle
- Week 2: Prose Poetry and Erasure/Found Poetry
- Week 3: Concrete/Visual Poetry and Hybrid/Multimodal Poetry
- Week 4: List/Catalogue Poems and Free Verse

How progress and success will be recorded
Each learner will create a portfolio of their work. There is no formal assessment; however, each learner will be encouraged to share their work for peer review on a weekly basis. Tutor feedback is always available if requested.
