Course Description

Dive into the timeless craft of crochet and discover the joy of creating beautiful, handmade pieces! This course has been designed for those who have never picked up a hook, consider themselves a novice, or need a refresher. Over 10 weeks you will master basic stitches, learn to read patterns and complete your own cozy projects. Learn in a friendly, supportive environment, stitching your way to creative relaxation! By the end you’ll not only have a new skill, but also unique, handcrafted treasures to enjoy.

Aims and Objectives

The main aim of this course will be to take students from a beginner / novice level of crochet to identifying as confident / intermediate.

  • Introduce crochet fundamentals; Equip students with essential skills and techniques.
  • Foster creative confidence; Encourage experimentation through various projects
  • Create a supportive community; build a friendly and engaging environment where students share progress, challenges and learn together.

Objectives

  • Master basic stitches; students will learn and practice foundational stitches such as chain, singles, double and slip. Students will be given the opportunity to explore how they can create textured fabrics by combining these.
  • Read and Interpret Patterns; students will gain the ability to understand written patterns and charts.
  • Complete Crochet Projects; each week students will be given instructions on how to use the skills they learn in class to create beginner friendly projects.
  • Understand yarn and hook selection; students will learn how different yarns and hooks can change a project
  • Develop finishing techniques; students will learn how to finish projects, including weaving in ends and blocking.

Progression – what next?

I would expect that after this course students feel confident to complete their own projects but may wish to attend an intermediate level course/workshops.
