Hear from the Principal

September 13, 2024

It has been a great week in College, and lovely to have all students back in for a full week. They have settled well into College and new routines, and we have been particularly impressed with how smart the students look, and how well they have adjusted to our new approach to mobile phone use. It has been great to see so many conversations happening and the use of card games, board games and other means of entertainment that don’t require screens!

Year 7 and 8 Information Evenings

It was lovely to welcome so many new and familiar faces in for our parent events this week. We will be sharing slides with all families before the end of the week, which covers a range of practical information as well as an introduction to the Middle Years Programme (MYP). We will be running information events at key points throughout the year for different year groups, so please do check either the Parent Information Sway for your child’s year group, or the College calendar, for more details.

Principal’s Coffee Morning

We would love parents/carers to join us for our first Principal’s Coffee Morning on Wednesday 18 September between 8:30am -10:00am, this is open to parents/carers with children from all year groups. If you would like to attend please email to provide our admin team an indication of numbers attending.

New year, new iCAS experiences

iCAS (Impington, Creativity, Activity and Service) was back with a bang this week! For those of you new to the College, iCAS is our enrichment programme that runs on a Wednesday afternoon. It is part of our commitment to ensuring all pupils develop a love of learning, and have the opportunity to be ‘balanced’ and ‘risk takers’, trying new things and meeting students from across the College (it is often taught in vertical groups). It also provides pupils with a chance to undertake some form of service learning, be this direct action volunteering in the community (from eco projects to local primary schools) or working in their House groups in year 7 raising money for the House Charities. This year we have added in a new running group, Paper Quilling, Bike Maintenance, Global Perspectives and International Film Club, to name but a few.

iSU Meeting

On Monday I met with our Impington Student Union Executive to begin planning for this academic year. They are eagerly waiting to interview representatives from across the College, as we grow our student leadership team for this year. We also discussed key projects, including the expansion of our lunchtime provision offering new play equipment and board games, and the work they are doing on redesigning the PE uniform. This follows on from the introduction of the skort to our uniform last year, which was chosen by students. I look forward to seeing what our iSU achieve over the coming year.

Alumni Success

Following my request for pupil successes, I was delighted to hear from former IVC student Ben B., who is now at the University Campus of Football Business Wembley, studying a BA (Hons) in Sports Business and Sports Broadcasting. As part of his studies, he has had his work featured on the BBC World Service! You can listen to the piece on BBC sounds here. It is always lovely to hear from alumni, especially when they have gone on to such varied and interesting destinations!

Launch of Peru 2025

Yesterday we welcomed Dom and Doreen from the Phoenix Projects, our partner organisation in Peru. The Peru trip for years 10 and 12, led by Ms Mawditt, has become a firm favourite among pupils. Over the years our students have fundraised extensively and undertaken a variety of community-based work at our partner school, including gardening, construction/painting and teaching English. The students also have the chance to participate in cookery classes, city tours and dance classes on the trip! More details will be coming out to parents in due course.
