Hear from the Principal

June 20, 2025

It has been another busy week in College this week, across both the main school and sixth form!

Year 12 Science IAs

This week has been a busy one in the sixth form, as year 12 have been working on their Internal Assessments for the Sciences (Group 4). Across all the science subjects, from Sports, Health & Exercise Science to Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Systems and Societies, the students have been completing their practical experiments, which will form a core part of their Internal Assessment. The IA is worth 20% of the final grade in each of the Sciences, and students are required to design and conduct their own independent experiments. We have been hugely impressed with their work this week!

Bonjour to Tours!

This week our MYP students have had a glorious week in Tours, as part of the 23rd French Exchange. They have enjoyed a plethora of activities, from spending time in our partner school, visiting local markets and attractions, and even going to a High Ropes course! It is a brilliant opportunity for the students to practise their French, learn about the local culture and make lifelong friends.

Battlefields Trip

Today our Year 9 pupils also left for the annual History Department Battlefields trip. Supported by staff, the students will be visiting many fascinating and famous places that tell the story of both the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Ypres. These include the trenches at Newfoundland Park, Vimy Ridge, Langemarck cemetery and memorials such as Tyne Cot, the Menin Gate, and Thiepval. This very moving trip supports pupils’ learning about the First World War, a core part of the history curriculum in year 9. As has been customary at IVC since the 1980s, our pupils will lay a wreath at Langemarck to remember the German soldiers who were buried there. Impington was the first English school in the 1980s to be given permission to lay a wreath in the German cemetery and this tradition has been honoured on all trips since, in keeping with instilling the IB ethos of promoting intercultural understanding and respect.

Year 11 Leavers’ Assembly

Our Year 11 students had their Leavers’ Assembly on Wednesday after an incredibly busy few weeks of GCSE exams. They have amazed us with their diligence and commitment over this lengthy exam period, with excellent attendance at all of the booster and briefing sessions run by staff. They had a brilliant time at the in-College Leavers’ event, signing shirts and enjoying the ever-entertaining final assembly. We are looking forward to celebrating with them again at the Prom in a couple of weeks’ time!

Year 10 Exams

As year 11 finished their exams, year 10 have just begun. This first formal set of mock exams is a significant milestone for our GCSE cohorts, and a great chance for them to experience the running of the ‘big’ exams, and to identify strengths and areas for development before they begin year 11.  We wish them every success over this busy couple of weeks!

Charity Football Match

This was another very successful and well supported charity event of ‘The Reboot’ (round 2) which was in aid of the charities Jimmy’s Cambridge, Centre 33, EACH and Blue Smile. It was a lovely afternoon enjoyed by staff and students.
