Framlingham and Orford Castle visit
On Wednesday year 10 went to visit Framlingham and Orford castles for their ‘History around us’ unit for the GCSE course. The students spent a full day exploring the features of both castles to support their learning, comparing and contrasting the two sites and learning about how the castles have both changed over time. This is a core part of the GCSE, and we are very grateful to our large team of History teachers for guiding the students around the castle so that they can see it in real life.
Cambridge Literary Festival Trip
Our students were invited to attend a special literary event on Wednesday 21st May as part of the Cambridge Literary Festival. This enriching opportunity inspired by The Litmus School Writing Project explored the theme of ‘Word Power’.
We were especially excited that the speakers included the acclaimed authors Jason Reynolds and Ali Smith. Reynolds discussed key themes from his award-winning verse novel Long Way Down, a powerful story in which fifteen-year-old William Holloman rides an elevator with a series of ghosts on his way to avenge his brother’s murder. Reynolds also introduced his latest work, Twenty-Four Seconds From Now and copies of Reynold’s latest novel were also on sale at the end of the talk.
Sixth Form Ball
Tonight is a big night for the sixth form as it is our annual May Ball, one of the highlights of the year for our students and staff. For year 13 in particular, it will be a huge celebration of the end of the IB exams, which finished on Wednesday of this week. We are incredibly proud of how diligently the students have prepared and how well supported they have been by staff across the College; we can’t wait to find out how they got on in July. In the meantime, we wish them a well-earned rest over the coming weeks, and hope they enjoy the variety of travels and activities planned.
Continued Cricket Success
The U15s played their second tournament group fixture against Longsands in the Fred Truman Cup.
Longsands batted first and scored 84 in 16 overs. The IVC team then chased this down in 10 overs without losing any wickets hence we won the match by 10 wickets. The top scorer was Murray C with 52 not out.
Sports Leaders and Primary Tennis
On Thursday our year 10 sports leaders took part in supporting our primary tennis event hosted on the courts at IVC.
We had 7 schools turn up and 14 leaders supported the event. Claire (organiser) praised our Sports Leaders for their professionalism and ability to lead their stations despite many not having a good knowledge of the sport.
We are also in the application phase for new Sports Leaders (current year 9s) for next year with the deadline of 9 June and would love to have the same numbers (if not more!) than this year
