I hope that everyone had a lovely half term break, and that your children have enjoyed being back in College this week for a very busy first week back.
India Trip
For some of our students, this week has seen them travel to India to visit our partner school, SKSN in Jodhpur, for the annual India trip. The students have been fundraising through iCAS and their own endeavours prior to the trip, as well as learning about the school and Indian culture. As well as spending time getting to know staff and students at SKSN, they have enjoyed a variety of sightseeing opportunities, taken the night train from Delhi to Jodhpur and even played cricket! We can’t wait to welcome them back next week and hear all about their travels!
UK Maths Challenge Success
Another term, another Maths Challenge! A few weeks ago our students took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge, and we are delighted to have received the results. The students really have excelled, showcasing their exceptional problem-solving skills and grit.
An impressive 64% of our students achieved Silver and Gold awards, a remarkable result considering the national average stands at 25%. This outstanding performance highlights the incredible talent and hard work of our IVC students, especially given that all schools put forward their most able students for this competition. Particular congratulations go to Reuben B., Aaron B. and George K for achieving ‘Best in Year’, and to Fin S. for the impressive accolade of ‘Best in School’ among our superb mathematicians.
Whole College CPD: student engagement
As part of our whole-College CPD programme, this week’s theme was student engagement and sharing good practice in maximising this. Our Lead Practitioners in History and Music shared some fabulously interactive strategies with our staff, using these as a platform for generating cross-faculty ideas. As always, the CPD was underpinned by pedagogical theory and focused on our whole college approaches to relational practice, embedding and growing the IB philosophy and engendering joy and challenge in the learning opportunities for all of our students.
Clip ‘n’ Climb Visit
This week a group of students visited Cambridge’s Clip ‘n’ Climb centre for a morning of climbing activities, to have fun and develop some of the IB Learner Profile attributes: open-minded and risk-takers. As always the students were a credit to the College, and showed great bravery, supported by staff. Clip ‘n’ Climb have also offered a voucher to everyone at the school details here!
Year 10 Work Experience
This week has been a very busy week for Year 10, who have been on their Work Experience placements. With over two hundred students out on a huge variety of placements, it has been quite the week! We are so grateful to Mrs Baker, our local community and to many parents and friends of the College who have helped to find an incredible array of opportunities: from British Antarctic Survey, The Centre for Computing History, Jagex (a major UK video game developer) to Cambridge United, Arm and King’s College Cambridge, the list is endless!
Upcoming Coffee Morning
Our next Principal’s Coffee Morning will be at 8:30am on Wednesday 12 March. This will be a chance for any parents/carers to come into College, meet with me and members of the senior leadership team, and talk about our College priorities. We hope that we might be able to share a little more of the Ofsted inspection feedback by then too, and talk about our next steps. Following the coffee morning there will be a chance to go on a tour of the College to visit lessons, for those who wish to. Please book a space via , so that we can organise refreshments.
