Another busy week!
Cambridge Festival Trip
This week our year 8 students had the chance to visit the Cambridge Festival at the University of Cambridge’s West Site. The students took part in a range of trails and workshops, designed for secondary school pupils. A great time was had by all trying everything out and exploring the university!
Latin Trip to Girton College
Students had the opportunity to visit ‘The Lawrence Room’ at Girton College which provided them with the opportunity to expand their understanding of Roman life outside Italy during the Empire, see Hermione, Girton College’s mummy and to meet Dr Dorothy Thompson a world leading expert on Roman Egypt. It was an absolutely fantastic visit.
Gold D of E
Our sixth formers had their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award training weekend across last Saturday and Sunday. The group spent the weekend up near Stow Longa, undertaking the first part of their practice for the final expedition. Following completion of the training weekend, they will be able to progress to their practice expedition later in the term!
Year 8 Progress Evening
We had a packed College for the Year 8 Progress Evening on Wednesday, with parents and carers attending for the Year 8 Progress Evening. As always, it was a positive event with lots of enthusiasm, and the celebrating of students’ work throughout the academic year.
Dance Showcase
It has been an incredibly busy couple of weeks in our Dance department, with the Dance East workshop for our KS3 students taking place, as well as our Dance Showcase which took place on Tuesday to a packed house. Our IB Dance students were also selected to perform in the U Dance regional platform at DanceEast in Ipswich last weekend. The students took their piece ‘You, Me and the Rest of the World’, choreographed by Amy Holly, and had an amazing day rehearsing, participating in workshops and performing the piece as part of the main event.
Year 9 Rugby
We had fantastic news over the weekend, with our Year 9 students taking the win in the county cup final for Cambridge against Ely. Although it was for Cambridge Rugby Club, there were a lot of our Year 9 boys playing for this team (many of whom have only picked up rugby since coming to IVC). The students were an absolute credit to the College, cheered on by Mr Raine, and it was a great game, with Cambridge coming from behind to win in the final few minutes with Elliott Pike kicking the winning penalty. Well done everyone!
