Careers Update: Mock Interviews

At the very end of last week, our year 10 students had a fantastic Mock Interview Day, supported by Form the Future and some of our parents. The students had the chance to experience a formal mock interview, from a range of professions including law, medicine, software engineering, marketing, econometrics and even a voiceover artist! We received hugely positive feedback from the interviewers about our year 10 students, who were fantastic throughout the day. It was great to see them preparing (with a few nerves) and to see how seriously they took it. We are especially grateful to those parents who volunteered to support the day; we could not have run it without you.

Whispers in the Graveyard

It was rather spooky on Tuesday and Wednesday evening in the Gropius Hall, as our 40-strong young actors’ group, The Impington Collective, took to the stage in their performance of ‘Whispers in the Graveyard’. Directed by Mr Griffin, the pupils had worked all year on the production, rehearsing every week, and really did themselves proud. It was especially great to see how the students composed and performed their own music, led the technical team and even ran the lighting desk! This is a very busy term in Performing Arts, and excitement is certainly building for next week’s performance at the Junction! There are a handful of tickets still available if you would like to join us.

Intermediate Maths Challenge

This Wednesday our mathematicians took part in the first round of the UK Intermediate Maths Challenge. Organised by the UK Maths Trust, the Maths Challenges are designed to test pupils’ mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in Maths. As always, we are very excited to see how they get on!

Year 11 Mock Language Orals

This week our year 11 students have been doing their GCSE mock orals, to help them prepare for their final speaking exams in the summer. We have been very impressed with how the students have started, and how they are coping with the most challenging of all the exam components.

Chinese New Year celebrations

IVC students and staff had the opportunity to celebrate Chinese New Year and welcome the start of the Year of the Snake this week. Mr Tsang and the group of IVC Hong Kong students wanted to mark this day. For students who come from Hong Kong, this is usually a week-long holiday where they spend a lot of time with extended family and friends. Many of them will be missing that experience. They welcomed students and staff to receive New Year’s greetings in Cantonese, learn the basics of mahjong, and sample some Asian snacks.

Sporting Success in Cross Country

IVC students recently participated in the Cambridgeshire County Schools Cross Country race at King’s Ely. Reuben finished 19th and was three places away from qualifying for the Anglian Schools’ Cross Country Championships. Congratulations to Penny, Eliza and Derek who were among the students who also participated in the race and who have qualified for the next round in the competition. We can’t wait to hear how you get on!

Holocaust Memorial Day

All this week the History and Religions of the World staff have been delivering assemblies about Holocaust Memorial Day  (27th January) and to raise awareness about the Holocaust and other incidences of genocide around the world. In addition to this, on Thursday our Year 10 history groups watched an interview with Mala Tribich, a Holocaust survivor, which was broadcast by the Holocaust Memorial Trust to deepen understanding of their study of  Living Under Nazi Rule.
